SUMMARY:
Mother Caroline Academy seeks a part time School Nurse for the 2025-2026 academic year. The school nurse will handle student health cases throughout the day and school year.
The School Nurse is required to have either an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a Certificate in Practical Nursing with commensurate experience. Applicants must also be licensed as a registered nurse RN or a licensed LPN in the state of Massachusetts. Certification through either the state Department of Education or Department of Health may be necessary. In addition to any and all school situations, processes, and circumstances requiring medical attention, the school nurse will oversee all student health and illness related protocols, procedures and creation of school protocol guidelines to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.

Mother Caroline Academy is an independent, tuition-free school for girls in grades 3-8 from limited financial means. It serves girls of all faiths, races, and cultures from Boston neighborhoods. The mission of the school is to provide a high-quality education that develops the individual gifts of each student and prepares her for success in competitive secondary schools, college, and beyond. OUR STUDENTS: MCA students are brilliant scholars who represent various Boston neighborhoods. Mother Caroline Academy & Education Center serves 70+ girls, who are 80% African American, 13% Hispanic, 7% mixed race. While MCAEC is a school rooted in the Catholic tradition, students come from a multitude of religious traditions.
School Nurse Responsibilities
- Treat students and staff as needed and maintain medical records
- Develop care plans for students with ongoing conditions
- Perform hearing, vision and other health screenings
- Consult with teachers, families, school administrators and other school staff regarding student care
- Administer medication
- Monitor and collect student immunization records to ensure complete medical history information for all students
- Perform all testing and implement guidelines for the Covid-19 pandemic in adherence to federal regulations around the Covid-19 pandemic
- Monitor the building for Covid-19 regulatory equipment
- Educate students and staff on health procedures
- Conduct educational sessions on self-esteem, weight stigma, eating disorders and any other health topics affecting middle school aged students
Qualifications For School Nurse:
- Valid Massachusetts Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license or Registered Nurse (RN) license (preferred)
- Experience in pediatric and adolescent health including mental health
- Knowledge of school regulations and policies
- Ability to work independently and with others
- Ability to communicate well with others
- Ability to assess situations and act quickly
- Current CPR/AED certification
- Knowledge of MA state health and US federal health regulations
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Platform
Hours:
30 hours/week
Vacations and school closures generally follow Boston Public Schools.
