On May 9th, MCA and Step Into Art worked together to transform MCA’s old chapel into an art gallery and invite the school community to engage with the sixth grade portraits throughout the day to get a taste of what a real-life gallery walk might feel like. The 5th graders were allotted time to connect with the 6th grade individually in order to prepare themselves to complete this project next year!
Please enjoy Step Into Art’s virtual exhibition of the sixth grade self-portraits from the 2022-2023 school year. Drawing inspiration from artists Kehinde Wiley and local Roxbury artist Ekua Holmes, the sixth graders made intentional choices at each step in the project to bring their full selves to life in these portraits through painting and collage.
