WHY SUPPORT MCA

Make a Difference!

Mother Caroline Academy and Education Center (MCAEC) is Boston’s only tuition-free school for girls whose families live below the federal poverty line. Students from MCAEC come from neighborhoods where the Opportunity Gap is prevalent – the inequality of education due to outside factors such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, English proficiency, community wealth, or familial situations. Students from lower-income families do not have the financial resources that support their more affluent peers. Poor nutrition, lack of healthcare, an inability to pay for preschool, tutoring, test prep, for tuition contributes greatly to this gap. At MCAEC, students are provided breakfast and lunch daily, have access to a full-time school nurse and licensed mental health counselor, are provided test prep, tutoring, and high school and college counseling. At MCAEC, we meet the needs of the whole child, and her family, with access to health and wellness support.

We raise the entire school budget, each year.  Since FY19, we have seen an overall increase in donations.  In order to preserve our endowment, we plan for that to continue.  For more information on how you can help, please contact our Director of Development, Marie Louise Greenidge at (617) 427-1177 x134.

The Founders’ Society – Leave a Lasting Legacy for Mother Caroline Academy

Mother Caroline Academy has formed a Planned Giving program in order to recognize those who have designated the school in their estate planning.  In 2020, MCA was the recipient of two bequests, one from a longtime volunteer at the school, and one from an alumna of the school.  We are grateful for these legacy gifts which provide financial support and sustainability needed for the school’s continued growth.  The most common legacy gifts are bequests made in a will, or, a beneficiary designation of a retirement fund, or a life insurance policy.  Gifts can be restricted or unrestricted.  Unrestricted gifts provide for the school’s greatest needs while restricted gifts can go towards the endowment, academic programs, capital improvements, athletics, etc.

Becoming a member of The Founders’ Society is simple, as establishing an estate plan creates membership.  Planned giving is not just for the wealthy, anyone can create a lasting legacy for MCA students.
